PELHAM HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM– Did you see PCT’S (Pelham Children’s Theatre) performance of “Grease”? The actors in “Grease” worked so hard on the performance. The actors spent 2-4 hours a day in the Pelham Memorial High School backstage and in dressing rooms waiting for their time to shine.
“Grease” is a musical about a girl (Sandy Olsson), and boy (Danny Zuko) that love each other, but the Danny takes Sandy for granted and then tries to get her love back. The musical features lively songs and 1950s pop culture, including a DJ based off of popular ’50s DJ Alan Freed. It also includes hip scenes and dances. The musical was written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey and was performed by Pelham Children’s Theater on May 2, 3, and 4.
The Pelham Children’s Theater is a parent-run organization for kids in 5th and 6th grade in Pelham, that allows the students to be in theater and have a chance to meet each other. It also gives the 5th graders an opportunity to get to meet more 5th graders and meet the 6th graders. They got to perform together before middle school.
The actors that performed in Grease were students in 5th and 6th grade in Pelham. The students that performed had to audition to be in the play, and they then had to go through rigorous training to be able to perform. This included memorizing their lines, remembering where to be on stage, getting on stage at the right time, and knowing where to be. This was challenging for the students and gave them a short timeframe to prepare for it. Overall, the students had to work hard and memorize a lot in a short amount of time, but “Grease” was a major accomplishment for them and will give the students much more experience overall in acting, as well as spreading the word about Pelham Children’s Theater.
The people that watched “Grease” were impressed with the amount of work the actors put in.
CV noted, “‘Grease’ was really good! I love how everyone had a role and they did their parts beautifully.”
VM watched “Grease” being performed and stated, “I would rate it a seven out of ten because it was really good, but I feel like the ensemble wasn’t used enough.”
JN, one of the actors in “Grease” that played a major role, was interviewed. When asked what his favorite song of the show was, he replied, “‘We Go Together’ because there is everybody in it.”
Thanks to everyone who helped the “Grease” cast feel confident in themselves, made sure everyone looked like they were in the ’50s, and made sure the actors were ready for the stage!
