Hutchinson Dragons?

HUTCHINSON– Hutchinson Dragons? If you have ever walked on Lincoln Avenue, I am sure you have seen a weird statue-like thing that looks like a dragon on Hutchinson hill.

This statue has been there since 1983…many years! If you’re like me, you may have wondered what animal it is and why it is there.

Mrs. Fiore, a first  grade teacher in Hutchinson, gave me some answers to all these questions.

Mrs. Fiore said, “When my son was there, the art teacher, June Solokin, wanted to make a fantasy garden with different animals every year. Once there was a bear, but somebody vandalized it. When the art teacher left Hutchinson, the project was not complete and there were no statues added to the fantasy garden.”

Natalia Sujica reported, “Whenever my dad drives me by the Lincoln Avenue door when I am late, I see the statue.”

Delia Lavallee, “I think that it is cool that we get a bit more of Hutchinson’s history.”

Now you know that Hutchinson has history and fun facts, too.

So even though we are the Hutchinson Bears, we are proud to have the dragon by our school.
