HUTCHINSON SCHOOL– The New York State ELA Test had a technology issue, which confused the students! The computer-based state test was supposed to begin on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. When everyone tried to log in, the logins didn’t work, and they started to get confused. Hutchinson Elementary then tried again the next day. Multiple people got in, which led to almost everyone; however, again, not everyone got in. The principal then announced the state test would be held after break.
LS reported, “It was a little bit hectic because the teachers didn’t know what to do and we had to wait there for an hour.”
Ms. Buzin added, “It was hard to keep the students busy while waiting for directions, and it was a nuisance having to reschedule the testing for after Spring Break.”
A letter got sent to the parents saying, “Dear Pelham Families, We want to provide an update on the New York State ELA assessments for grades 3-5 which were scheduled to be administered to students today and tomorrow. Unfortunately, the computer-based testing platform used by the state is experiencing technical difficulties, which prevented students from beginning the assessment this morning. This issue is affecting districts throughout the state. To ensure as smooth of an assessment process as possible, we will be rescheduling today’s ELA assessments and will share the new dates shortly. All students in grades 3-5 have returned to their regularly scheduled classes for the day. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we await more information from the state.”
Then another letter got sent to the staff saying, “Dear Hutchinson Staff, The state has confirmed that Questar, the testing platform, is up and running. With that in mind, we will resume NYS ELA testing tomorrow, Tuesday, April 9, and continue on Wednesday, April 10. Thank you all for your continued flexibility and patience as we adjusted to the unexpected delay. A revised specials schedule will be shared shortly to reflect the updated testing days. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or needs. Your support in creating a calm, smooth environment for our students is deeply appreciated!”
The ELA test was originally supposed to happen on April 8 and 9. The test was then rescheduled for April 9 and 10. However on April 9 and 10 Questar was still down. Questar not working led to the ELA test being rescheduled for after Spring Break on April 24 and 25. Third time’s a charm! On the third try, Questar finally worked!
