HUTCHINSON ATRIUM– On March 3, 2025, the Hutchinson fifth grade had their first ballroom dance class with Wei Wei, the dance instructor.
In the Hutchinson’s Atrium, almost every week, Hutchinson’s fifth grade students will learn to ballroom dance with Wei Wei. The students will learn to dance Latin and standard ballroom. Over the course of ten sessions, students will have learned three out of the twenty ballroom dances. Students will also learn to overcome their fears of dancing with a partner and being on stage.
L.S. shared, “I think it improves their skills and now they can do a new thing.”
CV commented, “Dance can get us excited and it’s good to get exercise, too.”
On March 17, the Hutchinson fifth grade had their second ballroom dance class. This was the first time students held hands while dancing. Students also learned the New York, a second part of the cha-cha.
On March 24, Hutchinson’s fifth grade had their third ballroom dance class, where students learned the hand-to-hand step in cha-cha. The hand-to-hand step is the New York in reverse. While in New York you turn to face out, in the hand-to-hand you turn to face the inside.
Ms. Buzin shared, “I love how the ballroom program teaches students not only dance skills, but also helps to boost their confidence.”
During the most recent ballroom sessions, the Hutchinson fifth grade has been working on the jive.
Students hope that they will get to showcase their skills for the school community to see!
