HUTCHINSON SCHOOL — Do you celebrate Lunar New Year? Well, on the 29th of January, 2025, the Lunar New Year begins!
Not everyone celebrates Lunar New Year. People have their differences. But many people have different ways of celebrating. Let’s see how other people celebrate this holiday!
“We exchange red envelopes and watch the full moon,” GAF said.
“I collect the money from the red envelopes,” AV noted.
“I eat long life noodles and fruit. We make decorations and put up decorations,” EW replied.
This year (2025), is the Year of the Snake. Each year, there is a new animal that represents that specific year. Every year, Lunar New Year falls on a different day, either in late January or in early February. But not only that, every year everyone celebrates their Lunar New Year traditions.
Chinese people sweep their floor to sweep away (or say goodbye) to the bad luck. Vietnamese people don’t sweep their floors. They think that you would be sweeping away the good luck for the year. Most people give out red envelopes to kids that are 1-15 years old. Red envelopes are filled with money. The color red symbolizes good luck. That’s why most people have red decorations, clothing, and jewelry. For decoration, you can hang up red banners that say, “Happy Lunar New Year!” and Lunar New Year lanterns.
Remember that not everyone celebrates Lunar New Year, but that’s okay. Everyone has their own unique culture and holiday(s).
