HUTCHINSON SCHOOL— The students at Hutchinson Elementary were all excitedly preparing for the next book fair. The first one, earlier in the school year, was a big hit that got everyone excited for it to happen again. This big event happens twice a year, and is always something to look forward to.
Kids already are starting to save their money for the purchase of a few new books, hoping there will be good ones. Others wait until the last minute to ask their parents for money. All kinds of books are for sale, from comic books and graphic novels such as Dog Man, to thick chapter books such as the Harry Potter series. But not just books are being sold. Many pencils, little toys, erasers, posters and things like that are purchasable and always bought in numerous amounts.
PC shared, “I’m excited because I love to read books.”
HT described, “I feel it’s a good way to read more and to learn about things.”
AA explained, “The books at the Book Fair were overpriced. They didn’t have enough Dork Diaries books and customer service was a little bit awkward.”
The Book Fair is usually a great time for kids to be more encouraged to read. Kids have time before, after, and during school to shop. They bring money from home to buy a new book- or three. They also, if their teachers see that they’ve been reading enough, are given Reading Tickets. Reading Tickets allow kids to buy books because they’re worth money, but they don’t have to repay the money spent. The first Book Tickets were worth $2.00-$8.00 and the next were worth $9.00.
Now everyone will have wait to buy their favorite books until next Book Fairs of the 2024-2025 school year.
