Have you ever seen a book filled with letters, memoirs, faxes, and more communication types of writing? Regarding The Fountain is a book filled with only letters, no narration. This book is created by Kate Klise, created in 1998. There may be no narrator, but the story is juicy!
Regarding The Fountain is a mystery book filled with clues and hints all around. It is about a school fountain that gets a leak and someone has to call another person to fix it. The person they send a note to is Florence Waters, a fountain designer and repairer. But, what starts to be a tiny problem becomes a full book! There develops a big mystery that the students of Dry Creek Middle School have to uncover. There are a bunch of clues hidden throughout Regarding The Fountain, so you can feel like an actual mystery solver! Kate Klise put in some other cool touches, too! For example, some characters are Walter Russ, Sam N., Lilly, Paddy, Pearl O. Ster, Shelly, and Sally Mander. See anything familiar in those names?
When asked if she liked the book, SC replied, “I did like the book and my favorite part is when Walter Russ sends Florence a letter saying that he couldn’t do any work with the walrus following him around!”
HP noted, “I like how the characters were very funny throughout the book and how Florence shares interesting facts about the places she travels to.”
Regarding The Fountain has tons of amazing art, each filled with intricate details from page 1 and on. These drawings play a very important role in the story, too. They give tiny, but noticeable, hints in drawings that the wording could not explain! The author uses every type of drawing to try to make her clues easy, but challenging! Some other books that Kate Klise made were Regarding the Sink, Regarding the Trees, Regarding the Bathrooms, and Regarding the Bees. All these books are part of the Regarding series.
In Class 5S, the teacher gives her students fun jobs like Travel Trackers, Slooths, Play on Words, and more. The students have to work with these jobs to figure out the mystery and also to be proud of their detective work! Students have to work with groups and in the end, they get to use art and imagination to create a beautiful poster.
Regarding the Fountain is more than ‘just a book’, as you can see! If you treat it with an open mind, you can really get why it’s worth this review!
KY added, “I didn’t think I would like the book before I read Regarding the Fountain, but when I read the book, I thought it was funny.”
